Surviving the quarantine with the Proaction Lab: Psychological thrillers

Are you a fan of Martin Scorcese? Leonardo Di Caprio? Robert De Niro or Bradley Cooper? Because today we're going to suggest two different films that focus portray mental illnesses. Who doesn't like a good story on how people can become? Our brains are still the best computers out there but they are far from perfect.

The first suggestion is Shutter Island, a psychological thriller from 2010 but with a respectable 8,1 score on IMDb. It is directed by Martin Scorcese and features, to name a few, Leonardo Di Caprio (playing a US marshal Teddy Daniels), Mark Ruffalo (Chuck Aule) and Ben Kingsley (Dr Cawley). The story is based on  Dennis Lehane's novel with the same name published in 2003. In 1954, Teddy Daniels is investigating an escape from the Shutter Island Psychiatric Hospital. He was brought there because of a plot put in place by the hospital doctors whose treatments are... not the most ethical ever. Teddy wants to get access to the hospital records of the suspects that would crack open the case, but the hospital is not ready to share. The plot thickens as a hurricane cuts communication with the mainland the rush of puzzling clues leave Teddy doubting everything he believes in.

Contrasting with a 10-year-old film, we suggest Joker that was released last year. Joker is an 8,5 on IMDb and features Joaquin Phoenix and Robert De Niro and was nominated to the best picture Oscar, losing it to Parasite (also an amazing film). Joker is Batman's arch-nemesis created by DC COMICS who had an origin story written and directed by Todd Phillips. In 1981, Arthur Fleck (Joaquin Phoenix) is a failed stand-up comedian who develops insanity and nihilism and starts up a revolution against wealthy of the dark Gotham City. Caught between cruelty and apathy, Arthur makes a bad decision that starts a chain reaction, where his worst comes to the surface.
